Why Individuals and Groups Do What They Do

Assume that you are the manager of a business that wants to learn about why individuals and groups do what they do within the organization. Currently, there is no application nor knowledge of why individuals or groups within the organization act the way they do. Assume that the readers of your essay will be the board of directors of the organization who want to see the organization develop more into a team environment. The board wants to know why the employees, teams, and the organization care about organizational behavior.

Introduction

Organizational behavior in business management has become predominant in recent years because it has become apparent that it can provide numerous benefits for businesses. It is important to understand why individuals and groups behave the way they do within an organization because it has a direct relationship with the success of the organization. Organizational behavior is a field of study that examines the actions of people in the workplace, and it combines psychology, sociology, and communication to understand the behavior of individuals and groups in the organization, as well as aspects like motivation, communication, and leadership.

OB qualities and skills that best suit me

Employers care about human behavior within an organization. They look for specific traits that an applicant has to contribute to the climate of the organization in addition to the necessary knowledge and skills a person may have. Out of the five personal qualities or skills within OB (Communication skills, Honesty/integrity, Interpersonal skills, Motivation/initiative, and Strong work ethic), what quality or skill best suits you, and how have you applied them in your personal or professional life?

According to Organizational behavior (2017), the top 5 personal skills are strong work ethic, motivation, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and honesty. The personal quality or skill within OB that best suits me is communication skills. I have always believed that effective communication is essential in any aspect of life, whether it is personal or professional. In my personal life, I have used my communication skills to build strong and meaningful relationships with my family and friends. I make an effort to actively listen to others, express my thoughts and feelings clearly, and engage in open and honest conversations.

College Algebra, week 1, task 3

1. Find the domain of the function using interval notation.

2. Sketch a graph of a piecewise function. Write the domain in interval notation.

3. The cost in dollars of making x items is given by the function C(x) = 10x + 500. a) The fixed cost is determined when zero items are produced. Find the fixed cost for this item. b) What is the cost of making 25 items? c) Suppose the maximum cost allowed is $1500. What are the domain and range of the cost function, C(x)?

1. Find the domain of the function using interval notation.

To find the domain of the function, we need to identify any values of x that would make the denominator equal to zero, since division by zero is undefined.

College Algebra, week 1, task 2

Reflect on the concept of function. What concepts (only the names) did you need to accommodate the concept of function in your mind? What is the simplest function you can imagine? In your day to day, is there any occurring fact that can be interpreted as a function? Is it possible to view a function? What strategy are you using to get the graph of a function?

Function is a fundamental concept in mathematics that describes the relationship between two sets of values, where each input value produces a unique output value (Abramson, 2021). In order to understand the concept of function, I needed to accommodate several related concepts in my mind, including domain, range, mapping, inverse, composition, and graphing.

The domain of a function refers to the set of all possible input values that can be used to produce an output value. The range, on the other hand, is the set of all possible output values that can be obtained from the function. Mapping is the process of assigning each input value to its corresponding output value. The inverse of a function is another function that reverses the mapping, allowing us to find the input value that produced a given output value. Composition is the process of combining two or more functions to create a new function (Abramson, 2021).

College Algebra, week 1, task 1

Consider the equation x^2+(y-2)^2=1 and the relation “(x, yR (0, 2)”, where R is read as “has distance 1 of”.  For example, “(0, 3) R (0, 2)”, that is, “(0, 3) has distance 1 of (0, 2)”. This relation can also be read as “the point (x, y) is on the circle of radius 1 with center (0, 2)”. In other words: “(x, y) satisfies this equation
x^2+(y-2)^2=1 , if and only if, (x, yR (0, 2)”.

Does this equation determine a relation between x and y? Can the variable x can be seen as a function of y, like x=g(y)? Can the variable y be expressed as a function of x, like y= h(x)? If these are possible, then what will be the domains for these two functions?  What are the graphs of these two functions?  Are there points of the coordinate axes that relate to (0, 2) by means of R

The equation x^2 + (y-2)^2 = 1 represents a circle centered at (0,2) with a radius of 1. The relation R between two points (x, y) and (0, 2) is defined as having a distance of 1 between them, which means that the two points lie on the circle.

Comparing and Contrasting Sculptures

In an essay compare and contrast the sculptures below, considering the effect the intended purpose or function has on the appearance of the sculptures. Statue of Memi and Sabu: http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-of-art/48.111 Seated Statue of Gudea: http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-of-art/59.2

Introduction

Sculpture is a form of art that has been practiced for centuries. It involves the creation of three-dimensional objects using various materials such as stone, metal, wood, and clay (Rogers, 2023). Sculptures can be created for different purposes, including religious, political, and aesthetic reasons. In this essay, we will compare and contrast two sculptures: the Statue of Memi and Sabu and the Seated Statue of Gudea. We will consider how the intended purpose or function of each sculpture affects its appearance.

What is Art?

Making reference to resources listed in this unit’s Reading Assignment, please address the following: What is your own definition of art? In this first week of the course, what do you think will be your strengths and weaknesses in studying Art History?

According to Belton (n.d.), art is a complex concept that involves human agency, whether through manual skills, intellectual manipulation, or personal expression. It encompasses a wide range of objects, ideas, and activities that are held to be separate or special in some way and can be characterized by various impulses and functions.

In my opinion, art can be defined as a creative expression of human emotions, thoughts, and experiences through various mediums such as painting, sculpture, music, literature, and performance. Art is not limited to just visual aesthetics, but it also has the power to communicate ideas, provoke emotions, and challenge societal norms.

My favorite work of art

Choose and identify your favorite work of art. Your choice can be from any time and place and can challenge the traditional definitions of art. What visual qualities make this item your favorite? Include in your discussion, as appropriate, descriptions of the artist’s (or creator’s) use of formal elements such as line, shape, color, space and other design elements.

My favorite work of art is Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” This painting was created in 1889, and currently it is housed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City (MoMa, 2000).

What I love most about this painting is its ability to evoke a sense of wonder and awe within me. The swirling, tumultuous sky and the sleepy village below create a sense of movement and energy that draws me in every time I look at it. The use of color is also striking, with deep blues and bright yellows creating a stark contrast that adds to the overall feeling of drama.

A sample as a subgroup of the population

Is it appropriate to attempt to represent the entire population only by a sample? When you formulate your answer to this question, it may be useful to come up with an example of a question from your own field of interest that you may want to investigate.

A subgroup of the population refers to a smaller, more specific group of individuals within the larger population. This subgroup may share certain characteristics or traits that differentiate them from the rest of the population, such as age, gender, ethnicity, income level, or geographic location. Samples may be defined based on various criteria, depending on the research question or objective. For example, a study on the prevalence of diabetes in the United States may focus on a subgroup of the population that is over 65 years old or a subgroup that lives in a specific region of the country (Explorable.com, 2009).

In many cases, it is appropriate to use a sample to represent the entire population, especially when the population is too large or too diverse to study in its entirety. However, it is essential to ensure that the sample is representative of the population and that the sample size is sufficient for the research question being investigated.
