Each day, reflect Maslow’s different needs and how different products and services meet those different needs.

Maslow’s Pyramid of Needs, also known as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, is a motivational theory proposed by the psychologist Abraham Maslow in 1943. It suggests that individuals have various needs that they strive to fulfill, and these needs are arranged hierarchically in a pyramid structure (Mcleod, 2023). Here is my reflection of different needs during the week:

Monday: Physiological needs

After a long day at the training center, I often find myself exhausted and in need of a quick, nourishing meal. This is where food delivery services like Meituan come in handy. They offer a wide variety of meals from different restaurants, allowing me to satisfy my hunger without having to cook.

Tuesday: Safety needs

In China, there is only one time zone. Which means that somewhere (for example, in the Northern part of this country), evening falls very early. In the summer, it gets very dark at 8 p.m., and in the winter it can be dark just at 5. My working day ends at 8, but most of the times I need to finish something and leave even later. To get home, I rely on Didi Chuxing, China’s leading ride-hailing service. It offers safe and reliable transportation, ensuring that I get home safely after work or social events (Ciaccia, 2022).

Wednesday: Love/Belonging needs

Working with kids can be fulfilling but also isolating at times. To fulfill my need for social interaction and belonging, I use WeChat. This multi-purpose messaging app allows me to stay connected with my family and friends, share my experiences, and feel a sense of belonging.

Thursday: Esteem needs

As a professional working with children, it’s important for me to continuously improve my skills and knowledge. Online learning platforms like Coursera meet this need by offering courses in child psychology and education. This not only boosts my self-esteem but also enhances my professional credibility (Barry-Biancuzzo, n.d.).

Friday: Self-Actualization needs

For self-actualization, I turn to fitness. Nike black-themed fitness clothing appeals to my aesthetic sensibilities and supports my fitness goals. By wearing their clothing, I am not just working towards a healthier body but also expressing my personal style and values.

Saturday: Aesthetic needs

Living in a city, I crave nature and serenity. Not long ago I bought the Oculus Quest 2 VR set, which allows me to travel around the world sitting at home, look at different animals, locations, etc. I even have the ocean rift app, which allows me to see the sea creatures from the deep.

Sunday: Transcendence needs

Finally, to meet my transcendence needs, I engage in meditation using apps in my VR set. It provides guided meditations in any locations I like that help me find peace and connect with something greater than myself (Bostock et al., 2018).
