Making reference to resources listed in this unit’s Reading Assignment, please address the following: What is your own definition of art? In this first week of the course, what do you think will be your strengths and weaknesses in studying Art History?

According to Belton (n.d.), art is a complex concept that involves human agency, whether through manual skills, intellectual manipulation, or personal expression. It encompasses a wide range of objects, ideas, and activities that are held to be separate or special in some way and can be characterized by various impulses and functions.

In my opinion, art can be defined as a creative expression of human emotions, thoughts, and experiences through various mediums such as painting, sculpture, music, literature, and performance. Art is not limited to just visual aesthetics, but it also has the power to communicate ideas, provoke emotions, and challenge societal norms.

In terms of studying Art History, I believe that my strengths lie in my strong visual memory. I also can remember the details of a painting or sculpture and understand the context in which it was created. My analytical skills can help me identify the different elements of an artwork and understand how they contribute to its meaning. Finally, thanks to my creative mindset I can come up with unique interpretations of artworks and explore different perspectives.

However, my weakness may be in memorization as soon as I may find it challenging to remember all the details. Also, I realized that I need to have good writing skills and it may be difficult for me to express my ideas clearly and coherently. Finally, I realized that this course would require a lot of research and writing. I may struggle with time management, and it will be challenging to complete all the assignments on time.

Overall, I am excited to learn more about Art History and to improve my understanding of different artistic movements and styles. I believe that by studying Art History, I can gain a deeper appreciation for the creativity and diversity of human expression.
