Looking back at all we have studied this term, what are one or two things that have an impact on you and why? Discuss how you are going to employ some of what you learned going forward in your life.

To be honest, at the beginning of the term, I thought that I will not really learn anything new in this course. I took it because I was simply curious, about what is meant by Emotional Intelligence. However, through the course, I realized that most of the content we learned was quite new to me, even though a lot of things looked just logical, I had never thought about them seriously and didn’t even think about how important they were in my life.

I think, my personality type and NVC were the two things that had the most impact on me. First of all, my MBTI type told me more about my personality type and after reading more resources about it I learned more about myself and how to use the strong and weak points of my personality in my daily life. NVC, at the same time, showed me that my emotions – especially anger – are not only about others but also about my own deeper thoughts and needs and those of other people, too. By combining my knowledge about myself and learning how to understand my own feelings, I can become more efficient in communicating with others. In fact, I had tried some of the NVC strategies at work already, and I believe that this helped me a lot to avoid a couple of difficult situations.

I think that at work the SCARF tool can be very effective for managing our department’s work and want to start using it when our training center opens after this COVID lockdown. Also, I learned that one of the biggest difficulties of my personality type is emotionality. Knowing this, as well as the basics of NVC, I can communicate more effectively and resolve more conflicts better, or even avoid them. Finally, the SWOT analysis that we practiced last week, to my great surprise can be efficiently used for any kind of personal issue and different personal concerns. It is a very useful tool for analyzing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and it can be applicable to all of the spheres in my life.
